Methodology

We analyzed 100 personal injury law firm websites in each of our 25 target markets (2,500 total) using a combination of Ahrefs domain data, Google Search Console aggregate metrics, manual SERP analysis, and our proprietary LLM visibility tracking system. We measured 47 distinct ranking factors including domain authority, backlink count, content word count, schema implementation, page speed, mobile scores, social signals, and AI platform citation frequency. All data was collected between January 15-31, 2026.

Key Findings

67%
of PI firms have zero LLM visibility

Two-thirds of personal injury law firms we analyzed had no presence whatsoever across ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini recommendations — even firms ranking on Google page one.

3.2x
more leads for firms visible on Google + LLMs

Firms appearing in both Google organic results AND AI recommendations generated 3.2x more qualified leads than firms with Google-only visibility.

89%
of top-ranking PI sites have schema markup

Nearly 9 out of 10 page-one results for competitive PI keywords had implemented LocalBusiness or Attorney schema markup, compared to just 23% of page-two results.

42%
of PI searches trigger the Map Pack

Almost half of all personal injury-related searches display the Google Map Pack, making GBP optimization a critical component of any PI SEO strategy.

1,847
avg word count of page-one PI content

The average word count of page-one content for competitive PI keywords was 1,847 words — content under 1,000 words was almost entirely absent from page one in competitive markets.

$247
average CPC for 'personal injury lawyer'

The average cost-per-click for PI keywords in the top 25 US metros was $247, making organic SEO roughly 8-12x more cost-effective than paid search for sustained lead generation.

18 mo
average domain age of page-one PI results

Pages ranking on page one for competitive PI keywords had an average domain age of 18 months for that specific URL, though the domains themselves averaged 8+ years of age.

4.7x
more backlinks for #1 vs #10 results

The #1 organic result for PI keywords had an average of 4.7x more referring domains than the #10 result, confirming that link building remains a dominant ranking factor in legal SEO.

What This Means for Your Firm

The data paints a clear picture: personal injury SEO in 2026 requires a multi-channel approach combining technical excellence, content depth, link authority, local optimization, AND AI platform visibility. Firms relying solely on Google organic rankings are leaving 25-35% of potential search traffic on the table by ignoring LLM platforms. The most successful firms — those ranking in the top 3 for competitive keywords — share common characteristics: comprehensive schema markup, content averaging 1,800+ words per page, strong backlink profiles (50+ referring domains per ranking page), active Google Business Profiles with 50+ reviews, and emerging visibility across AI recommendation platforms.

Perhaps most significantly, our analysis found that 67% of PI firms have zero LLM visibility — representing an enormous first-mover advantage for firms that invest in AI optimization now. Network Labs is positioned uniquely to help firms capture this opportunity, as we are one of the only agencies actively optimizing across all 5 major AI platforms simultaneously.
